While there is nothing more romantic than a glass of wine with some good ol'cheese on a cracker, there's always room for more. And as much as cheese is known to partner nicely with wine's acidity, the combo is also boring and quite frankly, monotonous.

Maybe it's time to swank up your food-alcohol game, toss the cheese off of your personal menu, and try these 5 snacks that'll blend perfectly with your next bottle of wine.

1. Veggies & Dip

For an unforgettable journey, take the healthy road that passes through red and fruity wines.

2. Vanilla Cake

If the plan is to indulge in bold flavoured wines, surprise, surprise, a vanilla cake will dial down the fierce notes for a bitter-sweet aftertaste.

3. Smoked Salami

Cold meats like salami and pastrami are perfect chasers for a night of wine tasting. Note that: smoked meat tastes better with white wine while the cold cut-up ones pairs well with crispy and fruity red wines.

4. Cold Pizza

Leftover pizza, hands down, is the perfect snack with young red wines that are not only pocket-friendly, but also taste like youth. Since Italian flavours are known to be the best accompaniment for wine, when paired with cold pizza topped with veggies, olives or mushrooms, it's the ideal millennial meal for an affordable solo date night.

5. Prawns

This weekend (or Monday), order prawns as a light snack with white wines on solo-date nights, binge-watching parties, and fancy dinners.
