5 Things You Can Do Every Day To Safeguard Your Skin Health

In the quest for the bigger picture, we often tend to forget that its really the small steps that make the most difference. The reason we mentioned this generic life philosophy is because this statement holds especially true when we apply it to the context of skincare. What we are trying to say is, your once a week facial won't give you the results you want, unless you also focus on taking care of your skin on an everyday basis.

Skincare isn't as complex, or multi-layered as it's often made out to be. Protecting your skin health does not mandatorily warrant expensive skincare products, or complicated hour-long rituals. With just a few basic steps every day, each of which won't consume more than 2 minutes of your time, you can secure healthy glowing skin in the longer run.

So without any further ado, here are 5 simple things you can do every day to safeguard your skin health.

1. Gently Exfoliate Your Skin

One of the most widely recommended skincare tips by most dermatologists is regular gentle exfoliation of your skin. A good exfoliating agent will help you with getting rid of dull top skin layers, minimising spots, and achieving a clear complexion. Try a cleanser with small exfoliating beads, or something gentler in case of sensitive or acne-prone skin.

2. Remove Your Makeup Before Bed

Trust me, you don't need to say anything. I am well familiar with the perils of reaching home late after a night out and the temptation to crash without moving any muscle, let alone cleanse your face. But as someone who has also often woken up with breakouts or pimples the day after sleeping with a face full of make-up, I can't emphasize the importance of this everyday skincare habit. Get into the habit of removing your makeup before bed every single time, regardless of how tired or sleepy you are.

3. Moisturise According To Your Skin Type

Your skin requires regular hydration to maintain its brightness and radiance. A good moisturizer can help you in the prevention of water loss from the skin as well as in protecting your skin against poor health. Make it a habit to generously moisturise your face every day with a product suited to your skin type. Pick one with antioxidants, and avoid heavy moisturisers if you have sensitive, oily or acne-prone skin.

4. Wear Sunblock (Even Without Direct Exposure To The Sun)

One of the most common misconceptions around sunscreen is that you only wear it when you're directly exposed to the sun. But if you were to ask any skin expert, they'd reiterate the importance of applying sunscreen to your face 365 days of the year. That's because sunscreen protects you against everyday exposure to UV rays (present even during cloudy or overcast days) which often leads to early signs of ageing on the face. So wearing a sunscreen every time you step out of the house is important not just to combat exposure to sunlight, but to also prevent fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin tone.

5. Stay Hydrated

This is one of the most important skincare tips out there and consequently, also the one repeated most often. Any skin expert you ask will always tell you to drink plenty of water for clear skin. In addition to keeping dry, flaky skin at bay, sufficient hydration is important to flush out toxins from your system, fight against skin problems like breakouts and pimples, and achieve naturally glowing healthy skin.

Your journey to naturally healthy skin is made up of small, everyday steps.
