Gandhi was a cool minded person who brought the heat (but not violence) to the fight for freedom. He's been gone for a hot minute, but his spirit still inspires people all over the globe.

If you wanna get a glimpse into his life, check out these spots in India where he chilled out and made history

 

1. Gandhi Ashram, Sabarmati, Gujarat

Gandhi's home in Ahmedabad is a must-visit for history buffs and peace lovers alike. Learn about the life and times of the Mahatma, and see where he hatched his plans for Indian independence. And don't forget to check out the museum, where you can see his famous spinning wheel and other artifacts.

2. Aga Khan Palace, Pune

This place has seen some drama! Mahatma Gandhi and his wife were locked up here, and two of his friends also passed away here. But don't let that dampen your spirits! Today, it's a museum full of Gandhi memorabilia, so you can learn all about his life and his fight for independence. So come on down to the Aga Khan Palace and take a walk on the wild side!

3. Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya, Mumbai

Gandhi's Mumbai pad, Mani Bhavan, was where he spun some serious yarns (like the charkha). It was also where he hatched some major plans (like the Satyagraha movement). So popular was this crib that even Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr. came to check it out. Apparently, King was inspired by Gandhi's nonviolent methods of protest, which he used to great effect in the American civil rights movement.

4. Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi

Gandhi Smriti, formerly known as Birla House, is where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life. It is now a museum dedicated to his memory, and you can even see the room where he was shot and killed. But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom. Gandhi Smriti also has an exhibition on his life and work, so you can learn about the man who helped to free India from British rule.

5. Gandhi memorial museum, Madurai

The Gandhi memorial museum is a time capsule of sorts, preserving a piece of history that is both tragic and inspiring. It's one of the few Gandhi sangrahalayas (museums) in the country, and it's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in learning more about the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
