As kites rise and the skies turn bright, we welcome Uttarayan with colour and craft. Pure silk Ikats, handwoven in rhythm, for days filled with light and new beginnings.
For us, Kanjeevaram sarees have always meant more than just fabric. Woven in Kanchipuram, the sacred home of Kamakshi, these sarees carry a sense of reverence and legacy that we have grown up with.
As performers we are often drawn to coordinated choices both in music and in sarees :) Spending time with Taneira’s Kanjeevaram collection at their Chennai store felt like reconnecting with a lineage of craft, devotion, and beauty. From their beautifully curated selection, we selected a lovely set of pink sarees with gold laksha butta design - exquisitely grand, yet subtle and understated in their elegance.
We don’t often get the time to step out and shop during the Margazhi season, so this felt like a welcome pause amid our concert schedules. We look forward to the rest of the season unfolding, filled with music, art, and celebration.
Wising you having a wonderful Margazhi and Happy New Year!
Kanjeevaram sarees have always held a special place in my heart. As a Carnatic vocalist, my love for sarees is deeply intertwined with music, memory, and tradition. I have always admired the yesteryear musicians who carried our rich musical heritage forward—not just through their art, but also through their timeless and graceful attire.
Margazhi, in particular, heightens this connection. It is a season where music and sarees come together effortlessly, and choosing the right drape—one that feels aligned in colour, weave, and spirit—becomes truly meaningful. This season, I chose a beautiful kunkumam red Kanjeevaram saree from Taneira. The authenticity of the weave and the richness of the colours immediately stood out, making it both elegant and comfortable to wear.
I hope you are all enjoying this auspicious Margazhi season, celebrating it with soulful music and your most cherished sarees. Do explore the exquisite collection at Taneira, and wishing you a season filled with devotion, music, and grace.
There’s something quietly magical about wearing a Kanjeevaram saree, it feels like stepping into a living tradition, one shaped by generations of skilled hands, stories, and memory. Each weave carries a certain stillness, a sense of time slowing down.
Spending time with Tata Taneira’s store, was a joy. The colours are rich, and the motifs — elephants, deer, and peacocks — felt evocative, each carrying its own sense of meaning.
I found myself especially drawn to the vaira oosi sarees, with their delicate patterns and understated detailing. I spotted a stunning rich maroon one, perfectly contrasted by a deep teal border. I look forward to draping it this Margazhi season.
I hope you are enjoying this wonderful time of the year! Wishing you all, a lovely Margazhi!
Margazhi always arrives with its own rhythm, a season where music, colour, and tradition quietly come together. I have long imagined ragas as colours: Saraswathi in pristine white, Kalyani in deep blue, Lalita in soft pink… and the symphony continues.
It was my Guru who first introduced me to the timeless beauty of Kanjivaram sarees, elegant drapes adorned with gopurams, rudraksh and butta motifs, each carrying a story of its own. Those early impressions have stayed with me through the years.
This Margazhi, I found my way to Tata Taneira and picked up a saree that felt just right. A perfect “office wear” for the season :) Their commitment to craftsmanship continues to impress me, and every visit feels like a quiet celebration of tradition and timeless elegance. From Taneira, with love. ?
