From what I can remember of my early childhood years, I've always been the child obsessed with all things creepy. My fascination with scary stories, paranormal incidents and local spirit folklore, has definitely alarmed my parents on more than one occasion. The fact that I'd relentlessly beg my mother to let me watch gory horror movies, didn't help the cause either. As a matter of fact, one of the very first non-fiction books I became a fan of, happened to be based on the most gruesome serial killers in history. And this was when I was like 11. All I can say is, thank you so much Mom for not putting me in a psychiatric facility.
Contrary to what several family members believed, I didn't grow up to be a sadistic murderer. But even now as I sail through my twenties, my morbid fascination with supernatural stuff and macabre content is just as intense. Honestly, I'd pick a terrifying horror film any given day over a funny tale of romance, and for fun, I like to read about disturbing crimes committed by deranged lunatics. Joy! So naturally, if there's one festival perfect for a weirdo like me, it's that of Halloween!
I know I know, Halloween is not a thing in India, right? Well, it can be if you want it to. Either way, this year it falls on a spooktacular Saturday, so all the more reason to celebrate....something. And by celebrate, I mean get as drunk as a skunk. This brings us to some ultra-creepy cocktail recipes we recently discovered. Now, you may not be over the moon about Halloween, but these spooky drinks, are too cool to be missed!
1. Bloody Brain Shooter
This Halloween cocktail looks downright disgusting, and we love it so much! The look of this drink might lead you to believe otherwise, but trust us, it tastes delightfully delicious.

It's also surprisingly easy to make, and requires you to stock up on just 3 ingredients! The brain-like strands may look complicated to create, but it's just the cream curdling caused by mixing acidic lime juice and Bailey's Irish cream.
Ingredients:
- Peach Schnapps
- Bailey's Irish Cream
- Lime Juice
- Splash of Grenadine
2. Walker Blood Sangria
When your friends are least expecting it, just casually take a swig of blood this Halloween; that's bound to terrify them. If real blood isn't your preferred choice of poison, you can also go for this yummy pomegranate based sangria inspired by The Walking Dead!

3. Toxic Shock Gelatin Shots
Look, there are two ways to become a mad scientist. Either you get all the qualifications, lose your sanity somewhere along the way, and let sadism take over.

OR, you can stir up a bunch of these Toxic Green shots on Halloween, and feel like a mad scientist handing 'em over to your guests (read: subjects). In this creepy cocktail, Vodka takes on a much more sinister role than usual, by mixing in with some green apple liqueur and classic gelatin.
Ingredients:
- Vodka
- Green Apple Liqueur
- Green Apple Gelatin
- Citric Acid
- Water
4. Death in the Afternoon
If there's one other interest of mine that can parallel my obsession with horror, it's literature. So imagine my unabashed delight, when I found out that this beautiful yet evil-looking cocktail, was Ernest Hemingway's favourite drink. Yep, that's why it's named after his book!

Apart from being a prolific author, Hemingway was also notoriously famous for his love for alcohol, and he invented this cocktail recipe by taking the risk of mixing Champagne, and absinthe. It's actually really simple to make, and as instructed by Heminway himself, you just keep adding chilled Champagne to a jigger of absinthe, until it attains "the proper opalescent milkiness".

5. Pina Ghoulada
First things first, can we take a moment to fawn over the name of this cocktail? I mean, who can pass up on a good Halloween pun?! Anyway, we digress.

This Halloween version of one of the most adored holiday cocktails is just as fruity and delicious as the OG Pina Colada. It's tropical, it's sweet, and it's capable of mentally transporting you to a beach vacay right with the first sip. The blood on the top of the glass is the most crucial detail here, and you can make some simply by whisking together corn syrup with red food colouring and drizzling it along the rim.
Ingredients:
- Rum
- Pineapple Juice
- Orange Juice
- Heavy Cream
- Cream Of Coconut
- Corn Syrup
- Red Food Colouring
6. The Devil's Margarita
Does this guy wear Prada AND drink awesome ombre Margheritas? The Devil truly is fabulous. Okay, my sad attempt at a joke aside, we absolutely adore this Halloween twist to the classic Tequila cocktail.

And guess what, all you need to add is some red wine to the original recipe! With that addition, you get strong earthy flavours poured into your drink, along with the blood-red hue around the rim of the glass. You've got to be a bit careful while pouring the wine with a back of a bar soon in order to make it float as desired.
Ingredients:
- Blanco Tequila
- Lime Juice
- Simple Sugar Syrup
- Medium-Bodies Red Wine
- Lime Wheel For Garnish
This Halloween, we urge you to drink away your fears. And THEN watch a horror movie. Get scared and drink some more. Movie. Drink...you see where we're going with this!
