MDF (medium density fibre board) is an engineered wood composed of hard wood fibres which are held together with resin, heat and pressure to create a solid piece which can then be used in all the same ways that natural wood can be. There are number of reasons why MDF may be used instead of Plywood. It is dense, flat stiff, has no knots and is easily machined because it is made up of fine particles it does not have an easily recognizable surface grain. MDF can be painted to produce a smooth quality surface as it has no grain it can be cut, drilled, machined and filed without damaging the surface. MDF may be doweled together and traditional woodwork joints may even be cut. MDF boards provide a far superior surface finish to the furniture than that provided by the Plywood. Vaneers, Foils, Glossy acrylux sheets and laminates etc. can be used to finish MDF. The world over MDF boards swiftly replacing plywood in furniture industry. The shortage of wood in coming years will fully replace plywood by MDF board. The biggest advantage of MDF is that the wastage of wood is nil in its manufacturing and it can be made by using single specie at a time. MDF boards are eco friendly products as they use wood to its full value and if you care about your environment you will select MDF board to make your furniture rather than plywood.
