Pod taxi which is also known as Personal rapid transit (PRT) is a type of small public transport facility featuring small automated vehicles that operate on a network of specially built guideways. The Pod Taxi that is going to be introduced in Gurgaon very soon is going to carry 3-6 passengers at a time.
These driverless vehicles are in the shape of pods, which will run along a predetermined course at 80-130 km per hour. According to the sources it has been said that the fares of these coming pod taxis will be maintained on a par with the current transport support. The pod taxi project is expected to have around 800-1100 taxis. This taxi will perform various functions like arrival audio and visual warning, platform stopping, CCTV surveillance, and break down vehicles. Doesn't that sound interesting in itself? The estimated cost of this Pod Taxi project that is coming to Gurgaon is Rs. 4,000 crore.
Both the private as well public sector will be investing for this project to loosen up the traffic of Gurugram.
The Pod Taxi system is going to follow the American standard of safety and will be using Automated People Mover (APM) standards.
The first route for this Pod Taxi is going to be from Delhi-Haryana border to Rajeev Chowk in Gurgaon which will be a great benefit to the Delhi traffic.
