This Children's Day, Surprise Your Kids With These Scrummy Desserts, That Are Also Healthy!

If "food" was a language, the dessert would be the perfect way of saying "I Love You" to your children and loved ones. Don't you agree? So parents, this Children's Day, let your kids have dessert before dinner. It's the perfect occasion and you don't even have to worry about their health. All thanks to these healthy dessert recipes. 


So what are you waiting for? Make Children's Day 2021 special with some scrumptious and healthy desserts.  


1. Cream Cheese Lemon Bars

Sweet, (cream) cheesy, lemony and super tasty, here's a healthy dessert recipe that's easy to make and quick to devour.

For Crust

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter - chilled and cut into small cubes

For Filling

  • 227g Cream cheese - softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar



  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a 9x13 inch pan with foil or parchment with plenty of overhang around the edges to lift the bars out of the pan before cutting
  2. Prepare the crust by combining flour, sugar, salt, and butter cubes in a food processor or blender
  3. Cover and pulse until fine crumbs form
  4. Press crust into prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes while you prepare the filling
  5. Prepare the filling by combining cream cheese and sugar in a large bowl
  6. Cream together until smooth. Mix in flour, lemon juice, eggs, and vanilla until completely incorporated
  7. Pour filling over crust and return to oven for 30 minutes
  8. Allow to cool for about 20 minutes, then cover and transfer chill in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight
  9. Lift the foil edges to remove the bars from the pan, slice into squares, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve



2. No-Bake Cheesecake with Oat Crust

A treat for parents and children alike, here's a delicious 3-ingredient cheesecake filling with no gelatine or heavy cream, that comes together in 10 minutes and is pretty amazing.

  • Cream cheese
  • Honey 
  • Vanilla
  • Oats
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon



  1. In a bowl, take add cream cheese, honey and vanilla, and mix for a while until you get a smooth mixture. Keep it aside
  2. Take a blender or a food processor and add oats, butter cinnamon and some honey
  3. Blend until you get a crumbly mixture that sticks together
  4. It's time to combine the crust and pastry. In a cupcake mould, gently press down the oats mixture to make a base
  5. Now smear base with cream cheese filling you just prepared
  6. Top it off with strawberry slices and refrigerate for 2-3 hours
  7. Serve cold



3. 2-Ingredient Chocolate Fugde

Just 2 ingredients? Well, this is your sign to make this yummy dessert for your kids today.

  • Dark Chocolate 
  • Condensed Milk 



  1. Grease your baking pan with melted butter and line it with parchment paper
  2. Cut your dark chocolate into small bits
  3. Add condensed milk and chopped chocolate to a heavy-bottomed pan
  4. Place on heat and stir till chocolate melts into a smooth mixture
  5. Pour the melted chocolate mixture on the baking pan and smoothen
  6. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours



4. Strawberry Frozen Yoghurt

No kid will ever say no to this health-right dessert in the form of strawberry frozen yoghurt.

  • 750g strawberries, hulled
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 500g plain fat-free yoghurt



  1. Process strawberries and honey until smooth
  2. Strain through a fine sieve into a large jug
  3. Discard solids and return mixture to processor
  4. Add yoghurt to the mix and process until smooth
  5. Pour the same into two 3 cup-capacity plastic containers
  6. Cover surface with plastic wrap and freeze for 4 hours or until frozen
  7. Remove from the freezer and let it stand for 3 minutes or until just softened
  8. Spoon into the processor and process until smooth
  9. Transfer to a 6 cup-capacity plastic container and cover the surface with plastic wrap
  10. Again freeze for 4 hours or until firm
  11. Remove from freezer and again let it stand for 3 minutes or until just softened
  12. Serve with love



5. Sugar-Free Healthy Kulfis

This Children's Day, surprise your bundles of joy with a low calorie, sugar-free, vitamin E and calcium-rich healthy Indian dessert.

  • 1.5 cups + 1 cup Almond milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp rice flour
  • 20 almonds
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • A pinch of cinnamon powder
  • 4 strands of saffron
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 2 tsp pistachio, crushed coarsely



  1. Boil water, add 20 almonds to it. Boil for 2 minutes. Cool and peel it after 2 minutes. Blend it to a smooth paste and keep it aside
  2. Heat the milk to a boil with saffron strands and then simmer for 25 - 35 minutes till thickens
  3. When it thickens, add the blended almond and heat for 2- 4 minutes
  4. Add crushed almond, pistachio, sugar, cardamom powder, cinnamon powder and heat for two minutes
  5. Dissolve 1 tsp of rice flour in 2 tsp of water. Add that to the mixture
  6. When totally thick, switch off and let it cool completely
  7. Now blend it once more for a perfectly creamy texture
  8. Keep it in the refrigerator for an hour
  9. Set in any containers you want, cover and freeze it
  10. Pour the ice cream into individual kulfi mould and freeze till set (for 6- 8 hrs)
  11. Unmold the kulfi by placing it under running water for a few seconds
  12. Remove on a plate, slice the kulfi, garnish with pistachios and serve immediately



6. Baked Chocolate Doughnuts

Doughnut worry, be happy... with a healthy dessert. All thanks to these scrumptious baked doughnuts.

  • 3 + 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup (200mL) warm milk
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp chocolate spread



  1. In a large bowl add in your flour, yeast and salt and mix well together
  2. In a separate jug, whisk together the milk, eggs, honey, melted butter and vanilla extract
  3. Mix the wet into the dry with a spatula until you form a wet loose dough
  4. Cover tightly with cling film and lay a towel over the top
  5. Leave the rise at room temperature for 2-3 hours. You will see it rise and bubble up
  6. Once doubled in size place the dough in the fridge overnight, roughly for 12 hours
  7. The dough will be loose but will firm up when chilled
  8. Don’t try to work after the 3 hours, it needs to be chilled
  9. On a floured surface, roll out your dough to 1/4 of an inch thick
  10. Using a scone cutter cut out your round pieces of dough. To cut the hole in the middle I used a piping nozzle
  11. Lay your doughnuts and doughnut holes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper
  12. Cover your doughnuts with a towel and leave to rise again at room temperature for 20-30 minutes
  13. You will know when they are ready because they will have puffed up
  14. Gently brush the doughnuts with melted butter
  15. Bake at 375oF (190oC) for 15 minutes
  16. Keep a close eye on them so they don’t get too brown
  17. Once out of the oven, smear your doughnuts with your favourite chocolate spread and enjoy!



7. Peanut Butter Crunch Brownies

Good news for your kids. You can now make peanut butter crunch brownies without any need for baking at all! Best bit? They're equally loaded with ingredients and flavour!

  • Melted Salted Butter 
  • Melted Baking Chocolate 
  • 1 Cup Sugar 
  • 2 Eggs 
  • Salt
  • Baking Powder
  • Vanilla Extract
  • All-Purpose Flour 
  • Peanut Butter
  • Chocolate Chips 
  • Crispy Cereal 



  1. Mix melted butter, melted chocolate, and sugar in a bowl
  2. Add the eggs & vanilla extract, and mix until blended 
  3. Add in salt, baking powder, and flour and mix 
  4. Pour the brownie batter into a prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes
  5. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave and add crispy cereal chunks 
  6. Spread the melted chocolate mixture on top of the brownies
  7. Refrigerate for 30 minutes 



8. Chia & Coconut Pudding

Give your kids a chance to indulge in this tropical, healthy treat today.

  • 400g can organic lite coconut cream
  • 80ml (1/3 cup)honey
  • 1/3 cup Chia Seeds
  • Blueberries, to serve
  • Toasted coconut, to serve (optional)



  1. Place coconut cream, honey and chia seeds in a bowl
  2. Stir well to combine
  3. Cover and store in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight to thicken
  4. Divide among serving glasses and top with berries, and coconut if desired.
